Overall, Harris threw for 1,019 yards and nine touchdowns, but was inconsistent and completed only 49.5 percent of his passes and tossed four interceptions. A dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands, Harris also added 332 rushing yards and three more scores on the ground.

Redshirt freshman Will Grier will challenge Harris for the top spot on the depth chart and exited spring practice as the favorite to start against New Mexico State in the season opener. Grier obviously lacks Harris’ in-game experience, but he is just as talented – perhaps more so as a passer. And, though not as fast or as agile as Harris, Grier is no statue in the pocket.

Both Harris and Grier are intriguing quarterbacks, and both players are capable of leading an offensive resurgence in Gainesville. But, there are also concerns about both – and specifically, which one will take the reins of the position.

Quarterback, Treon Harris or Will Grier

A new era is underway in Gainesville as the Florida Gators prepare for their first game under new head coach Jim McElwain. As usual, the question that appears to be on everyone’s mind is which quarterback McElwain will choose to lead the Gators’ offense into that new era.

Sophomore Treon Harris started six games last season for former head coach Will Muschamp and appeared in three others. The 5-foot-11, 193-pound Freshman All-SEC signal caller gave Florida a jolt the team desperately needed and was 4-2 as a starter, which included a victory over rival and SEC East favorite Georgia.
