I’m sure there are some who could argue that Bud Foster should be higher on this list, possibly even number one, and they wouldn’t be without a valid argument.
Foster has been part of the defensive coaching staff at Virginia Tech since 1987, and has been defensive coordinator since 1995. During his tenure, the Hokies have been a turnover creating machine and have put some of the nation’s best defenses on the field.
While his overall resume is amazing, his defenses have begun to slip since 2010, and when a coach has been in the same place as long as Foster has, it can become too much. Even still, the Hokies always manage to play solid defense, and Foster makes the most of any talent he’s given.
