If you want a tenacious guy who takes every missed opportunity by his players personally, then Brian VanGorder is your man. Despite a few down seasons in his varied NFL and college football stops, VanGorder has usually been a solid coaching choice.

He’s usually a coach who gets asked to do an awful lot with very little, and that’s definitely been the case since he came to Notre Dame in 2014.

While the Irish did fall significantly in scoring defense last season, giving up 29 points per game, there will be much more talent on the defensive side of the ball in 2015. The switch to VanGorder’s schemes from previous DC Bob Diaco was a lot for many players to adjust to in one season.
