Bob Shoop did at Vanderbilt what no one thought was possible, and that was to build a formidable defense in Nashville. He’s now followed James Franklin to Penn State and he’s building an even better defensive unit there.

Shoop’s first season with the Nittany Lions was a success as PSU fielded the nation’s No. 2 total defense and the No. 7 scoring defense. He also an excellent recruiter and has a high level nf talent returning to the defensive side of the ball in Happy Valley.

Penn State moved up in every category defensively since Shoop took command of their defense, including an impressive jump to the No. 3 rushing defense in the nation, giving up only 100.46 yards per game in 2014. If Penn State is able to keep Shoop around (LSU already tried to nab him) then this will be an impressive defense for years to come.
