September 5: Auburn vs. Louisville

I know, another neutral site game. As much as I prefer games to be in a traditional college setting, I do like the matchups that neutral site games often give us on opening weekend. The Auburn hype train has reached epic proportions. This is largely due to the limited action we have seen of new Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson.

Certainly, Johnson showed flashes of brilliance, but let’s not forget he was a backup to Nick Marshall last season. Johnson could be the best thing to happen to Auburn since Cam Newton, but there are no guarantees. This was an 8-5 football team last season that went 4-4 inside the SEC. Auburn’s first game is against a quality ACC opponent at the Georgia Dome and will allow us to see just how good Auburn is on the field and not simply in projections.

Louisville finished their first season of ACC play at a respectable 9-4. Their 2014 season was defined more by giving Florida State a legitimate scare rather than any meaningful victories. The Cardinals took advantage of beating up on the bottom of the ACC.

Nonetheless, this game in Atlanta will test an Auburn team that projects to be very good against a legitimate opponent while over half of the conference will be playing against inferior opponents to open the season.
