1. Washington – Sept. 4
If you weren’t aware that former Boise State head coach Chris Petersen is taking a trip to Boise in week one with his Washington Huskies, now you know. While the Huskies may not present a very big challenge, the game is still very significant for each program. Could the former Broncos coach essentially end Boise State’s quest to this season’s Playoff in week one? Could Bryan Harsin be an even better coach?
The Huskies lost a lot of talent from last year and coach Petersen has lots of work to do. This includes the quarterback position, where projected starter Cyler Miles left the program during the off-season. I’d be surprise if Washington’s offense scores more than 21 points all game. On the other hand, don’t expect Boise State to be too dominant either on that side of the ball.
With a strong Bronco defense, chances are the Bronco’s new starting quarterback won’t feel like he has to carry the team in his first career start. On the other hand, Washington’s quarterback will have more pressure. Additionally, former Bronco’s running-back Jay Ajayi’s top replacements may also need some time to adjust to their new, elevated roles.
This is a match-up you likely won’t want to miss. Fans in Boise will either completely get over the loss of coach Petersen, or they will be drawn back to longing for the glory days under Petersen.
