4. Gary Patterson – TCU Horned Frogs
Career Record 132-45
The TCU Horned Frogs are among a few favorites to contend for the national championship this season, and that is a testament to their head-coach, Gary Patterson. After a dismal 2013 season where the team went 4-8, Patterson steered his team to a 12-1 season.
Patterson has been the head coach at TCU since the year 2000 when he took over for his former head coach Dennis Franchione. He’s led the Horned Frogs to two undefeated seasons in 2009 and 2010 when the team was apart of the Mountain West Conference. Patterson won his first Big 12 title last season.
Transforming a 4-8 team into a fringe playoff team in just one year was an incredible feat. Entering this season will be very different for TCU. The team will face a plenty of hype from the fans and the media, much unlike the year before. Patterson has early Heisman favorite Trevone Boykin to work with on offense, and his own scheme should mask some of the inexperience on defense.
TCU will absolutely be a threat in not only the Big 12, but the College Football Playoffs in 2015.
