There’s a reason no other publication other than Athlon has Texas A&M in their top 25, and that’s because nobody really knows what to truly expect coming out of College Station this year.

Last season’s Aggie defense was just atrocious, and in response to that, head coach Kevin Sumlin went out and poached defensive coordinator John Chavis from rival LSU. Undoubtedly that will have an immediate effect on the Texas A&M defense, but probably not enough to already catapult them into the top 25.

Quarterback questions also surround the Aggies. While Kyle Allen has been named the starter for now, we’ve seen this show before and if his play is marked with inconsistency or mental mistakes, Sumlin won’t hesitate to make a change as he did with Kenny Hill last season.

The Aggies will be improved, but still not ready to tackle some of the SEC giants.
