Bret Bielema has done an absolutely outstanding job as the head coach at Arkansas. Two years ago, Bielema stepped into an impossible situation, then endured 13 consecutive losses in SEC play and somehow kept his team together long enough to snap that streak with a 17-0 victory over No. 20 LSU, which the Hogs then followed with a dominating 30-0 win over No. 8 Ole Miss.

After destroying Texas in an unexpected bowl game, the Razorbacks enter the 2015 season as one of the hottest programs in the nation. And, there’s reason to believe Bielema can ride that momentum all the way to an SEC title.

Arkansas allowed just 10.3 points per game over the final six games last season, which helped the Razorbacks climb into the nation’s top ten in scoring defense (19.2 points per game). The unit also ranked No. 10 in the country in total defense (323.4 yards per game), and six starters return for second-year defensive coordinator Robb Smith.

Offensively, Arkansas is loaded. Quarterback Brandon Allen is the most experienced signal caller in the SEC, and he posted a solid 20-to-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio last season. The Hogs have one of the best offensive lines in the league, which paved the way for two 1,100-yard running backs last season. While one (Jonathan Williams) won’t be available in 2015, junior Alex Collins is back and is capable of even more production in Arkansas’ smashmouth offense.

By playing solid defense, controlling the time of possession battle on offense, and picking up big plays on special teams, Bielema has built the Razorbacks into contenders in the SEC. If Arkansas can somehow split a brutal road schedule that includes trips to Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss and LSU, and gets a little help along the way, they can make it to Atlanta and win the SEC Championship Game.
