Like a few other of its conference brethren, Georgia is set to open the 2015 season this Saturday against a member of the Sun Belt Conference. ULM is well-versed in the practice of traveling to SEC stadiums, collecting checks and losses against the likes of LSU, Kentucky, Auburn and Arkansas – though with the occasional major upset.
Georgia Bulldogs
Remember, the Warhawks upset Nick Saban’s first Alabama squad 21-14 in 2007.
However, because of the strength of the Bulldogs this season, even more than the weaknesses of a ULM squad that was 4-8 last season, this won’t be one of those upsets.
Georgia is loaded on both offense and defense this season and is the favorite to win the SEC East. The star of the show is sophomore running back Nick Chubb, who should pick up a quick 100-plus rushing yards and a couple of touchdowns in the first half before taking a seat on the bench to rest up for the SEC opener next week against Vanderbilt. Backups Sony Michel and Keith Marshall should pick up where Chubb leaves off.
New quarterback Greyson Lambert will probably have an opportunity to show off his arm a few times as well so that head coach Mark Richt can see how the Virginia transfer operates in live game situations, and his backups are also likely to see action. A late Warhawks touchdown will probably make bettors sweat, but by that time the Bulldogs should be well on their way to a cover in Week 1.
