1. Texas Seemingly Got Worse

The 2015 was supposed to be a new beginning for the Texas Longhorns. This is Charlie Strong’s team and after a off-season spent getting tougher and adding more of “his” players on to the team, the Longhorns were not going to have to worry about getting embarrassed on the field like they were against Arkansas.

Texas traveled to South Bend, Indiana and proceeded to get run over in a 38-3 loss to Notre Dame. The Longhorn defense that allowed 3.8 yards per carry to the Razorbacks, was a mere speed bump for the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame rushed for 214 yards against the Longhorns. The Irish offensive line was so dominant that Texas’ starting defensive tackle Poona Ford did not record a single statistic. It is as if he did not even play the game.

Notre Dame pushed the Texas defense all over the field. When they got tired of running the ball on the Longhorns, they simply threw it over their head. Irish quarterback Malik Zaire completed 19 of his 22 attempts for 313 yards and three touchdowns.

Strong is known as a defensive head coach. The Texas defense allowed 527 total yards and 38 points. The offense continued to be stagnant while registering 163 total yards and three points.

Texas quarterback Tyrone Swoopes only completed seven of his 22 attempts for 93 yards. That was the second consecutive game in which Swoopes passed for less than 100 yards.

In 2014, Texas could rely on their defense to keep them in games despite an offense that averaged 21 points per contest. It appears that will not be the case in 2015. If Texas does not improve on both sides of the ball in a hurry, it will be a long season in Austin.
