Teams who stayed in place, but should have probably dropped

No. 5 Michigan State: The Spartans didn’t play a terrible game, but they certainly struggled with Western Michigan more than many thought they would. Giving up 24 points in week one to a much lesser opponent should have come with a price. Maybe one or two spots lower, but definitely shouldn’t have held steady.

  • No. 6 Auburn: The Tigers were probably overranked to begin with, and seeing them struggle mightily with non-ranked Louisville should have been clue number one. The Tigers looked frazzled and frustrated and definitely didn’t resemble a number six team. Put them 10th or 11th at best.

No. 14 LSU: It happens all the time during the regular season. If a team has an open week, and the team below them plays well, they get leap-frogged. LSU’s cancellation probably should have cost them a spot given how Georgia Tech dominated their game.
