2391.
Are the Mountaineers ready to contend for more than just their conference?

Appalachian State may come from the Sun Belt, but the team has seen dramatic improvement recently. In 2014 the Mountaineers started off 1-5, but rattled off six straight wins (seven with this last week’s win) and returns most of their key players from both sides of the ball.

If Appalachian State can win the Sun Belt Conference, and looks impressive in out of conference play, they have a shot at being recognized as one of the top powerhouse Non-P5 teams this season. It’s an uphill climb, but the team is at least in the race.

Appalachian State put up plenty of yards against Howard and kept their opponent to just 172 yards. Quarterback Taylor Lamb threw three touchdowns and the offense hardly missed a beat.

Appalachian State has a huge opportunity next game at Clemson, but Clemson is a very heavy favorite. With a close loss, Appalachian State can still top this list, but other Group of Five teams need to lose as well.
. (W Howard, 49-0). Previous: . Appalachian State Mountaineers. 9. team
