The one proving point for the conference was its defenses, something that could be the strong suit for the ACC going forward. A rather impressive statistic I came across was that six of the top 12 teams in the country for total defense reside within the conference. Granted not all the teams have played nationally recognized opponents, but those that have are generously represented atop the list.

If the defenses can keep pace with their fast-paced offenses, this could very well become one of the most balanced conferences in the nation, with much respect to the PAC-12 and SEC. Let Boston College be the example of what a fantastic defense can do for a team. They don’t have an overwhelming offense by any means but if you have a premier defense, it will keep you in almost any game, no matter the talent of the opponent.
