Penn State 28, Rutgers 3

The first conference game of the year saw Penn State cruise to a win against a Rutgers team without their head coach. Kyle Flood served the first game of his three-game suspension. Penn State’s offense gained 330 of their 471 yards on the ground. Their defense stood up to the challenge and only allowed Rutgers to 4.0 yards per play. It’s hard to tell if we learned anything about Rutgers who are going through a lot of off-field issues.

Going into this season Penn State’s quarterback Christian Hackenberg was the high-profile player on the team. Instead it looks like Penn State will focus on running the ball as Hackenberg only went 10-for-19 for 141 yards. The Nittany Lions ran the ball 41 times. Penn State is a 15-point favorite against San Diego State and the over/under is only 39.5. Rutgers host Kansas and are 12.5-point favorites.
