The Ole Miss Rebels picked up a historic 43-37 victory Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. It was the first time the Rebels had beaten Alabama since 1988, and the first time that Ole Miss beat the Tide in back-to-back seasons. Following a huge jump in the polls – from No. 15 to No. 3 in the AP Top 25 – and with the inside track to the SEC West title now that they’ve disposed of the preseason favorites, Ole Miss could be in danger of the hangover effect this week against Vanderbilt.

The Commodores, who are just 1-2 following last week’s 47-7 victory over Austin Peay, are a much improved football team through the first three weeks of the season. In fact, Vandy has shown improvement in nearly every major offensive and defensive category compared to last season’s averages. The Commodores actually look like a good defense through three games, holding explosive WKU and Georgia offenses, as well as a FCS opponent, to an average of 270.7 yards per game, which is the third best mark in the SEC.

Of course, Ole Miss has been the nation’s best offense this season, and the Rebels are scoring 64 points per game. Quarterback Chad Kelly appears to be the real deal – he leads the nation in yards per pass (12.3) and has thrown nine touchdowns and just one interception. And, the Ole Miss defense is tied for the nation’s lead with ten takeaways. Ole Miss will win easily, but take the ‘Dores to cover.
