1. TCU’s defense isn’t what it was

The entire team didn’t look overly impressive against Minnesota. TCU escaped that game with a 23-17 victory, which was surprising. After loads of preseason hype, many expected the Horned Frogs to blow out a Minnesota team that lost a lot of talent.

Against Stephen F. Austin, the defense looked solid. They held them to only 7 points, which is what they were supposed to do.

Although they won, the Horned Frog’s defense were exploited against SMU. First year head coach Chad Morris was able to put up 37 points against TCU with his spread offense. SMU quarterback Matt Davis threw for 330 yards and a touchdown. The Mustang’s only downfall was their 3rd down efficiency, they only converted on 33% of the time.

The Red Raiders run a very similar offense to Morris’ at SMU, but they have much better talent on their roster. Texas Tech is also the 3rd best team in the nation converting on third down at 56.8%.

TCU’s defense is also missing 5 players because of injury. After only returning 5 starters from last season, the Horned Frogs are going to have to play a lot of inexperienced players. Texas Tech should be able to take advantage of a thin TCU depth chart with their fast paced, spread offense.

Expect a lot of points in this one for both sides.
