The Contenders

5. Iowa (4-0)

The Hawkeyes last contended for a Big Ten title in 2010. Iowa usually stubs its toe early vs Iowa State or some MAC team. Not this year. The Hawkeyes took care of business vs teams it should beat.

Marshall Koehn 57 yard field goal to beat Pitt 27-24 highlights the Hawkeyes four game run. CJ Beathard’s TD pass and a Desmond King pick six won another close won at ISU 31-17. Pitt and Iowa State will go about 6-13 combined in the ACC and Big 12. Nevertheless, these are two Power 5 wins for Iowa.

The Hawkeyes concluded the non-conference slate with a 62-16 demolition of North Texas as Beathard hit on 18 of 21. Jordan Canzeri and Leshun Daniels are forming a pretty solid 1-2 punch out of the backfield.

We find out much more about the Hawkeyes next week in Madison.
