The Elite

2. Michigan State (4-0)

The Spartans turned in a pedestrian 30-10 win over Central Michigan. The Spartans led just 17-10 with eight minutes remaining before finally putting the Chippewas away. Connor Cook threw for just 143 yards. Sparty was outgained 340-324.

Nevertheless, this is the most accomplished team in the league. Despite Oregon’s implosion vs Utah, the win over the Ducks could again be the conference’s most significant win down the road.

Michigan State’s failure to dominate in its other three games is a cause for concern. Even more disconcerting is the injury front. All-Big Ten left tackle Jack Conklin left Saturday’s game with a knee injury. Tight end Josiah Price was seen on the sideline with crutches. Defensive back RJ Williamson was shaken up. MSU has already lost key defenders Ed Davis and Vayante Copeland for the season.

There is work to be done before November 21st’s trip to Columbus.
