14. Purdue (1-3)
No program in college football has taken the free fall that Purdue has experienced in the last ten years. Joe Tiller took a similar mess in the mid-1990’s and turned Purdue into a Top 25 program.
Darrell Hazell’s first two editions were definitely the worst teams in the conference with one win in 16 games, multiple losses vs the MAC, and close calls vs the FCS. The Boilers showed promise in the season opener by taking Marshall to the final drive of the game on the road. Purdue could have entered conference play with a 2-2 record, but gave up Saturday’s game with Bowling Green with 11 seconds left, 35-28.
At least Purdue may have found its future at quarterback in redshirt freshman David Blough who hit on 29 of 39 passes for 340 yards and 2 TD. The Boilers could only budge the Falcons for 77 yards on the ground though on 38 attempts. How will this team mount any offense vs a decent Big Ten team? Then there’s the defense.
At least Purdue may have found a quarterback.
