Florida running back Kelvin Taylor ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, with the majority of his production coming in the first quarter, including a 47-yard run that set up his first score, which gave Florida a 7-0 lead.

After allowing just 58 rushing yards per game over the first three weeks, Florida allowed 254 to the Vols, who averaged 5.0 yards per carry. It’s a bit of a red flag – as is the back injury that has caused Vernon Hargreaves III pain for more than a week, but the Gators came up big when it mattered most on both sides of the ball. Looking ahead, we’ll really get a chance to see what this team is made of next week against Ole Miss.

Florida Gators 4-0 (2-0)

Last week: Beat Tennessee 28-27
Last rank: 8th

They trailed most of the day, but with a home crowd behind them in The Swamp, and a clutch redshirt freshman that completed five passes on five fourth down plays – including the game-winning 63-yard touchdown – Florida beat Tennessee for the 11th straight season, and most importantly, moved to 2-0 in SEC play with a 28-27 victory over the Vols.

The Gators gained 392 total yards, but 124 of them came on fourth down. Will Grier completed 23 of 42 pass attempts for 283 yards (124 on fourth down), two touchdowns and an interception. It took a while for Grier to settle in, and the interception he threw to Tennessee’s LaDarrell McNeil in the second quarter was an ugly one that snuffed out a promising drive, but Grier looked better and better over the course of the game and calmly led the Gators to a big SEC East victory.
