Fournette was great, but the LSU offense got off to a slow start on the road in an 11AM kickoff, and led just 7-3 at the half. The Tigers also got a 69-yard punt return touchdown by Tre’Davious White in the second half, which helped wake them up and beat the Orange 34-24.
Harris also got off to a slow start, and completed just eight of his 16 passing attempts, but did connect on several big plays and totaled 157 yards through the air with one touchdown without an interception. Malachi Dupre was Harris’ favorite target and caught four passes for 73 yards (including a 42-yarder) and a beautiful fade pass for a TD. Harris and Travin Dural also hooked up for a 51-yard pass and catch. Overall, the offense picked up 425 total yards and did not turn the ball over.
The LSU defense was solid, and allowed a total of 281 yards and also intercepted a pass. The Tigers host Eastern Michigan next week before turning their attention back to the SEC with a trip to South Carolina. Unless something drastic happens, the Tigers are likely to stay atop the weekly SEC Power Rankings for a while.

Another week, another 200-yard rushing performance for Leonard Fournette. LSU’s sophomore running back gained 244 yards (including 48 on a heads-up play in which quarterback Brandon Harris was nearly sacked) and two touchdowns on 26 carries Saturday against Syracuse (and even had an 84-yard TD called back on an illegal formation penalty), which pushed his totals to 631 rushing yards and eight TDs through just three games this season.
That’s the best by any FBS player through three games in the last 15 years, and the quickest any LSU player has even gotten to 500 yards, not to mention 600. It’s no surprise that Fournette is the early leader in the Heisman Trophy discussion.
