  • Spread: LSU -18.5
  • Over/Under Total: 49

Simply because they have proven to be a better team through the first five weeks of the season, with arguably the best player in the nation at their disposal, LSU was already a two-touchdown favorite at most Las Vegas sports books in this weekend’s scheduled game against South Carolina in Columbia. However, heavy rains and flooding necessitated the move to Baton Rouge, largely because the law enforcement personnel that would be needed to host the game are still dealing with the aftermath of the storms, and the Tigers shot up a few more points.

Leonard Fournette has gained more than 200 rushing yards in the last three weeks and leads the nation with 864 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground despite playing only four games. Fournette’s production has covered up the struggles of quarterback Brandon Harris, who completed just four of 14 pass attempts for 80 yards last week in a 44-24 victory over Eastern Michigan.

To be fair, Harris and the Tigers took several low-percentage shots downfield, and receivers dropped multiple passes, but the numbers still aren’t good. In fact, the Tigers rank dead last in the SEC in passing with an average of 95.5 yards per game.

However, the LSU defense has been very good. The Tigers have allowed an averaged of only 293.5 total yards per game this season. That’s bad news for a South Carolina offense that ranks No. 101 out of 128 FBS programs with 353.4 yards of offense per week. The Gamecocks have shown more life under dual threat true freshman quarterback Lorenzo Nunez, but the young signal caller was responsible for three second half interceptions in last week’s loss to Missouri.

Simply, South Carolina isn’t very good right now, and because of Mother Nature the Gamecocks lost their opportunity to take advantage of their home field. Expect LSU to win and to cover.
