Linebackers
Blake Martinez (Stanford)
Blake Martinez is hands down the best linebacker this conference has to offer. The senior leads the conference in tackles with 70, and is averaging over 11 a game. This is a guy out of Tucson, Arizona, who wasn’t even offered by Arizona his senior year of high school. Stanford gave him a shot and he’s paid to be one of the best in program history.
Salamo Fiso (Arizona State)
He’s come a long way from his freshman year, and now third in the conference when it comes to tackles, but second on his own team, which speaks volumes of that Arizona State defense. He has 59 tackles on the year, and a whopping 13.5 tackles for loss, which leads the conference. Todd Graham runs a heavy risk reward defense, but Fiso has reaped the benefits, racking up all the tackles for loss.
Cameron Smith (USC)
This is a true freshman who is sixth in the conference in tackles, and just plays with the natural instincts of a true USC linebacker. A 6’2″ 250 pound linebacker that can do it all. Throwback to the days of Clay Matthews and Brian Cushing, and that’s what you get in Cameron Smith. 53 tackles on the year, one tackle for loss, and one sack, the best is yet to come for the USC Trojan defense when you’re talking about Cameron Smith.
