Arizona State will honor Pat Tillman with their new PT42 cleats.

Before he was Army Ranger and national hero, Pat Tillman, he was Pat Tillman, star linebacker for the Arizona State Sun Devils.

Tillman played for Arizona State from 1994-1997 before embarking on an NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals. After the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Tillman walked away from the NFL and enlisted in the armed forces to join the Army Rangers in 2002.

Sadly, Tillman was killed in Afghanistan in 2004, but his selflessness, bravery and courage will never be forgotten and his legacy will be honored by his alma mater with their new PT42 cleats.

The Adidas football twitter account shared a picture of the footwear on Thursday morning with the caption, “Dedicated to a hero. Significance in every detail.”

This is a nice gesture by Adidas and Arizona State to honor one of the best people to play on the football field in a long time. It’s easy to see all the players in college football and the NFL getting arrested and making one bad decision after another and forget there are actually some good guys playing this sport.

Tillman was one of those good guys.

He’s missed and there needs to be more guys like him.
