No. 5 LSU Tigers vs Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
Point Spread: LSU -17
Western Kentucky visits Death Valley with one victory already over an SEC opponent this year (Vanderbilt) and one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Brandon Doughty.
Doughty ranks among the top of the leaderboard in pretty much every meaningful passing stat. He leads the nation with a 74.1 completion percentage, second with 2,709 yards and a 186.38 rating, tied for third with 24 touchdowns and only four interceptions on 266 attempts.
He leads a Hilltopper offense that’s capable of putting up big numbers and Les Miles realizes the task in front of his defense on Saturday.
The 6-1 WKU defense will have their hands full trying to contain the current Heisman favorite Leonard Fournette. Fournette has been almost unstoppable with the ball in his hands this year. He leads the nation with 1,202 yards and 14 touchdowns. He literally has run over defenses this year. It will take a flawless defense scheme and execution to slow down No. 7, which is something no team has been able to do this year.
This is definitely a long shot, but if WKU can match score for score, it’s possible we see a game that comes down to the fourth quarter. The Hilltoppers are confident they can win with Doughty having the clear advantage over LSU quarterback Brandon Harris, who has looked better in recent weeks, but is far from the passer that Doughty is.
This would be the upset of the year but if Doughty’s supporting cast gives him a chance to win the game in the fourth quarter, this could be a score to watch late.
