Greg Schiano – Former Rutgers, Tampa Bay (NFL) Head Coach
If you look at Schiano’s resume and focus on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fiasco, you are overlooking a really good football coach. Schiano was never cut out for the NFL, and he’s stunted his career by making that untimely move.
Schiano had things rolling at Rutgers, a program hardly known for powerhouse football. Within four seasons after starting at New Jersey’s state university, he had the Scarlet Knights winning, including five straight bowl berths from 2005-2009.
His overall record in Jersey might not look impressive, but considering what he had to work with and some of the programs he was facing on a regular basis during those years, his body of work at Rutgers should be considered almost miraculous.
Coming in to a program like Georgia, he’d almost certainly be a success.
