Tom Herman – Houston Head Coach

Herman is in the first year as a head coach with Houston and he’s got the Cougars inside the top 25 and undefeated. He was the winner of the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach after serving as the offensive coordinator for the national champion Ohio State Buckeyes.

His work with J.T. Barrett and later Cardale Jones kept the Buckeyes in the Playoff hunt and Barrett in the Heisman conversation until he was hurt and Jones had to come in and led the team to the championship.

How many other coaches could win a national title with their third-string quarterback?

Not many, but Herman did it, and he’s turned Greg Ward into a dual-threat superstar who entered week 8 tied with Leonard Fournette for the lead with 14 rushing touchdowns. No matter the system or the personnel, Herman has shown he can win anywhere he’s at.
