Greg Schiano – Former Rutgers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach
Greg Schiano is another former Miami assistant coach after serving two years as the Canes defensive coordinator from 1999-2000. The Canes ranked 12th in points allowed per game and fifth in his second year before taking the head coaching job at Rutgers.
The New Jersey native had a great deal of success at Rutgers, winning 56 games in his last seven years after building the program figuratively from the ground up after a one and two-win season to start his tenure. He parlayed his success at Rutgers into a head coaching job with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but only lasted two years after going 11-21.
He’s been out of work as a coach since 2013 and should at least warrant a phone call from Miami to gauge his interest. He wouldn’t be the first option, but he’s gotta be on the list.
