Halloween and college football were made for each other. From the great games to students dressed in crazy costumes, it is going to be an epic day. We also know the real Halloween treat will come a week late.

Saturday we will alternate between eating candy and watching football. Throw in some trick-or-treating with the family, your favorite fall beverage and perhaps a Halloween party for good measure. Chances are if you are reading this, college football will be mixed in with some sort of Halloween festivities.

What a great day to be alive.

There are a few games that jump off this week’s SEC schedule. The marquee matchup is the continuation of the Florida and Georgia rivalry. It is the first time in quite a while both teams are “relatively” good at the same time. Ole Miss takes on Auburn to kick off the day. There is even a sneaky good night game as Vanderbilt heads out on the road to take on undefeated and No. 18 Houston.

These are all intriguing matchups but in the back of the mind of southerners is next week’s belated Halloween gift of LSU taking on Alabama.

Tomorrow is like the opening band at a U2 concert. Did I just date myself? It is the person that comes on before Taylor Swift. Did this just get creepy?

Okay, forget the music analogies. It is the Bang Bang Shrimp before the entrée comes out. In Halloween terms, it is the yellow starburst. You know, the pieces you eat before you get to the reds and pinks you have saved.

We will get to enjoy tomorrow’s slate of games and at the end of the night when you pull up next week’s schedule (if you’re anything like me this is a Saturday tradition) you will see Alabama and LSU staring at you.

Both teams are coming off a bye and the game has significant implications in the SEC title race as well as the College Football Playoff. It is reminiscent of 2011 when the game was being dubbed as the next “game of the century” only to have it played over again months later for the BCS Title Game.

Enjoy Halloween as much as you can with as much candy and football as you can stomach.

Just know the treat of all treats will be a week late in Tuscaloosa.
