Not surprisingly, the LSU Tigers retain the No. 1 spot in our Saturday Blitz weekly SEC Power Rankings. The only undefeated team in the SEC through the first nine weeks of the season, the Tigers have been the most complete team in the league thus far.

Running back Leonard Fournette is the front-runner for the Heisman Trophy, and has gained 1,352 yards and 15 touchdowns on 176 carries (7.7 yards per attempt). However, Fournette isn’t alone in the LSU offense – or even in the backfield.

Eight Tigers ball carriers have combined for 2,164 rushing yards (309.1 per game) and 24 touchdowns on 325 carries to date, which is an average of 6.7 yards per carry. Backup running back Derrius Guice ranks second on the team with 316 yards and two touchdowns and has gained 9.3 yards per carry. Quarterback Brandon Harris has 136 rushing yards and three TDs.

More from Saturday Blitz

Considered the weak link of the offense in the pre-season, Harris has played better and better as the season has progressed. The sophomore signal caller has completed a modest 75 of 128 pass attempts for 1,098 yards and nine touchdowns, and has yet to thrown an interception. Harris’ best games this season have come in the last three contests, in which he’s combined to complete 42 of 67 (62.7 percent) attempts for 716 yards and seven touchdowns.

Harris and Fournette will have their hands full this week with an Alabama rush defense that ranks among the nation’s best (78.5 rushing yards allowed per game). Can the Tigers stay perfect, and keep the top spot in our rankings? It’s safe to say the winner will surely be No. 1 next week.
