As much fun as it would be to see a national championship celebrated in Corvallis, there are too many factors that keep the Beavers out of that conversation – the biggest of which is 45 miles down the road in Eugene.
Oregon State only has five conference titles, the last coming in 2000, and nothing before 1964 prior to that one. The small pockets of success and some nice NFL names to their credit aren’t nearly enough to consider this as a program that will ever be able to become a national power.
The Beavers fall into that category of programs that don’t suck, but don’t not suck either. They have a long way to go before moving into the upper echelon of the Pac-12, and even thinking about being a national title contender.
