On upset alert because of the Thursday night kickoff on the road, Mississippi State exploded for a four-play, 62-yard touchdown drive on its first offensive possession, which ended with a 36-yard strike from quarterback Dak Prescott to Fred Ross.

The yardage gained on the drive pushed Prescott past both Eli Manning and Johnny Manziel on the SEC’s all-time total offense leaderboard, and on the following drive Prescott became just the tenth player in conference history to surpass 10,000 total yards. Prescott’s assault on the record books continued with his 100th career TD – an eight-yard pass to Fred Brown that gave the Bulldogs a 31-13 lead in the fourth quarter.

Playing the SEC’s second toughest defense, statistically speaking, the senior signal caller finished the game with 303 passing yards and four TD passes and 47 yards on the ground. Prescott’s 63-yard completion to De’Runnya Wilson (who finished with 102 receiving yards and two TDs on four catches) was the longest of the season allowed by the Missouri defense. Ross also surpassed the century mark with 115 receiving yards on 11 grabs.

The Mississippi State defense played a solid game – especially at the line of scrimmage. Defensive lineman Chris Jones was a disruptive force up front that helped the Bulldogs make life difficult for the Missouri passing game. State recorded five sacks and two interceptions.

Now 7-2 overall and 3-2 in SEC play, the Bulldogs have a few extra days to prepare for Alabama ahead of next week’s clash in Starkville. Sadly, Mississippi State will prepare for the Tide with heavy hearts following the tragic deaths of freshman Keith Joseph Jr. and his father and former Bulldog Keith Joseph Sr. following a Friday night auto accident.
