Turns out Leonard Fournette is human after all. Alabama has one of the best rush defenses in the nation, and it shut down Fournette completely. This was his time to close out the Heisman race, and shut it all down. Everyone was watching this game, a battle between the No. 2 and No. 4 team in the nation. Instead, he averaged just 1.8 yards a carry.
He had just 13 yards up until LSU’s final possession, running for 18 yards, and adding on a touchdown to salvage his scoring streak. In order for Leonard Fournette to be effective, Brandon Harris needs to operate the offense efficiently, and he had himself a rough day, going 6/19, 128 yards. That pretty much set the tone for the LSU Tigers.
I haven’t been huge on the Tigers, simply because their success greatly relied on the shoulders of Leonard Fournette and they’ve also skated by their schedule, playing back up quarterbacks constantly.
This is a tough call. Leonard Fournette is clearly the best player in all of college football, but, LSU could stumble with their remaining schedule, dethroning him from the top.
