6. Wisconsin (8-2, 5-1)
The record looks familiar, but the offense doesn’t in Madison. A number of factors have converted Wisconsin from a rushing machine to a pass happy outfit. Credit an inexperienced offensive line, experienced quarterback and injured Corey Clement with no superstar running back in the wings as in past years. The Badgers are still mathematically alive in the Big Ten West. Most likely the Badgers won’t make it to a fourth Big Ten Title Game in five years. Double digit wins and a Top 15 finish are certainly attainable goals.
5. Northwestern (8-2, 4-2)
The Wildcats are back to winning ugly with none uglier than Saturday’s 21-14 victory over Purdue. Clayton Thorson only hit on 9 of 19 passes with two interceptions and the Wildcats pass defense gave up 287 yards. Justin Jackson‘s 116 yards were the difference. His emergence from a midseason slump has sparked Northwestern’s three-game winning streak.
