Final Four: Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Houston
Conferences Left Out: ACC, Big 12, Pac-12

Here is probably the only scenario where a Group of Five team can find there way in, and it would take a wild combination of losses and wins for it to happen, starting with Houston finishing the season unbeaten.

  • The ACC would find themselves left out if Clemson were to lose either or both of the following – one of their final games and the ACC title game to a team like North Carolina or Pittsburgh. The committee wouldn’t vault either of those teams into the top four.

The Big 12 would be left out if Oklahoma State loses to either (or both) Baylor or Oklahoma, and everyone in the conference has one or two losses, all to each other. The Pac-12, as in the other possibilities, doesn’t have a strong enough resume in the league.

Notre Dame would simply need to keep winning to hold on to the fourth or even move up to the third spot.

This would mean three of the five Power-5 conferences wouldn’t be in the playoffs. Unreal.
