Final Four: Stanford, Oklahoma, Houston, Michigan
Conferences Left Out: ACC, SEC, Notre Dame

This is the most improbable and completely bizarre possibility. It’s also probably the only way the Pac-12 makes the playoffs. Here’s what it would take:

  • Oklahoma wins out.
  • Houston wins out.
  • Stanford wins out, and beats a highly ranked Utah or USC in the Pac-12 Championship game.
  • Michigan wins out, and beats then-undefeated Iowa in the Big Ten Championship game.
  • Florida loses to Florida State, then beats Alabama in the SEC Championship game.
  • Clemson loses to South Carolina and the ACC Championship game to Pittsburgh or a 2-loss North Carolina.
  • Notre Dame loses to Stanford.

If this happens, you might honestly see an 8-team playoff by 2016. Maybe this should actually be what we’re all hoping for when all is said and done. I know I’d love to see the playoff committee scrambling to explain themselves.
