The current head coach at Ohio State and last year’s national champion, Urban Meyer is one of the top coaches in college football today. Myer’s ability to innovate and adapt his scheme to the players he has is uncanny. A lot of head coaches try to find players who fit what they do, but Meyer molds players to fit what he does.
We all saw how much success he had with three different quarterbacks during his National Championship run in 2014, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise. Meyer was able to modify his spread offense to fit Alex Smith’s set of skills at Utah and then tweaked it once at Florida when he had Chris Leak and later Tim Tebow.
His quarterback tree is impressive but his coaching tree may be even better. 11 of Meyer’s former assistants have moved on to be head coaches, which includes names like Charlie Strong, Dan Mullen, and Tom Herman.
Meyer has found success everywhere he’s gone and you should expect him to add to his resume over the next few years and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him a few spots higher on a list like this when his career is over.
