When Frank Beamer retired from coaching after the 2015 season, it was the end of an era at Virginia Tech for one of the most successful and well-liked coaches to ever prowl the sideline.

While Beamer never won the elusive national championship at Virginia Tech, his Hokies did play in one BCS Championship Game (1999 vs. Florida State). Beamer also led the Hokies to 23 consecutive bowl appearances from 1993-2015, the longest streak on record at the time.

In 1987, Beamer took over a Virginia Tech program which was under NCAA sanctions from former coach Bill Dooley, and despite the reduction in scholarships and loss of national TV exposure, still managed to have the Hokies back to a winning record in just three seasons.

Beamer won eight conference championships during his coaching tenure – one Ohio Valley Conference, three Big East, and four ACC.
