10. Minnesota (5-7, 2-6)
Coaching issues became a theme for four of the five worst teams in the Big Ten. Unlike Illinois, Maryland and Rutgers, Jerry Kill’s demise had nothing to do with poor judgement, leadership or coaching. Kill’s health issues forced the fourth year head man to hand the reins to defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys. The Gophers competed with the likes of Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State and Wisconsin, but couldn’t deliver a signature win or enough wins to get Minnesota back to postseason play.
9. Nebraska (5-7, 3-5)
Did any team lose as many gut-wrenching games as Nebraska? Breakdowns on the field and poor decisions on the sideline both contributed to a series of last second defeats. Win just one of those heartbreaking defeats and the Huskers would’ve secured postseason play. Instead much of Husker Nation is questioning the hiring of Mike Riley. Tommy Armstrong’s 16 interception season also calls into question whether he is the best option at quarterback going into his senior season.
