The Georgia Bulldogs won their fourth consecutive game with a 13-7 victory over Georgia Tech and finished the regular season 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the SEC, but despite a relatively successful season on the bottom line there is still a great deal of speculation surrounding the future of Georgia head coach Mark Richt.
Richt has been under fire since a 1-3 October stretch that included blowout losses to Alabama and Florida and a 38-31 loss to Tennessee in which the Bulldogs squandered a big first half lead. Other than in the loss to the Vols, Georgia’s biggest issues have come on the offensive side of the football. And, even with four straight wins in November, the Bulldogs have been far from explosive on offense in recent weeks.
Saturday, the Georgia offense got off to a great start when running back Sony Michel scored on a 34-yard touchdown on a 4th-and-2 play during the Dawgs’ first offensive possession. Michel gained 149 rushing yards on 24 carries and now has 1,076 yards this season despite spending the first half of the year as Nick Chubb’s backup.
However, the Bulldogs couldn’t find the end zone the rest of the game. Quarterback Greyson Lambert finished with 224 yards on 18-for-25 passing. Terry Godwin led Georgia receivers with eight receptions and 78 receiving yards.
The Georgia defense, which has spearheaded the Bulldogs’ winning streak, held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for more than 56 minutes before allowing a 15-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs held Tech to just 276 total yards and forced three turnovers, including two interceptions.
