26. Ball State Cardinals – Mike Neu replaces Pete Lembo

It was a bit of a stunner when Lembo left Ball State to take a job as an assistant on D.J. Durkin’s staff with the Maryland Terrapins. Sure, it’s a step up from the MAC and into the Big Ten, but it’s a demotion from being a head coach to a special teams coordinator and assistant coach. Maybe, he thinks it’s his best way to a Power Five head coaching job?

In comes former Ball State quarterback Mike Neu who was the MAC Player of the Year in 1993 and spent hte last two years as the quarterbacks coach for Drew Brees on the New Orleans saints.

His only head coaching experience was with the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football League from 2004-2008 and his only college experience as the quarterback coach with Tulane from 2012-2013. He spent three years as a scout with the Saints before leaving for Tulane so maybe his eye for talent will help on the recruiting trail.
