Scooby Wright had been plagued by injury all season long, and did not complete an entire game this season until the Gildan New Mexico Bowl, where he led the team with 15 tackles, 3.5 for loss and two sacks.
The reigning consensus All-American, Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, Nagurski Award, Bednarik Award, Lombardi Trophy winner, went down with an ACL sprain in the opening drive vs. UTSA in week one.
With a top 25 showdown, and College GameDay headed to Tucson, Wright returned vs. UCLA, and ended up with a severe knee sprain, which kept him out for the rest of the Pac-12 schedule.
Arizona had a lot of injuries this season, but none greater than Wright. The defense was missing their field general out there, the on-the-field coach, and had no sense of direction. This was by far Arizona’s worst defensive season under Rich Rodriguez, and the loss of Wright showed his value.
