Pac-12 Football: The MVP for every Pac-12 team for 2015
By Gabe Encinas
Dec 5, 2015; Santa Clara, CA, USA; Stanford Cardinal running back Christian McCaffrey (5) tries to avoid being tackled by Southern California Trojans cornerback Kevon Seymour (13) after running for a first down in the second quarter in the Pac-12 Conference football championship game at Levi
The nation’s leader in all-purpose yards this season, many felt Christian McCaffrey should have won the Heisman, and he had the arguments for a valid case. He led the high-powered offense of Stanford, an offense that scored over 30 points in every single game this season, with the exception of their Week One loss at Northwestern.
He broke Barry Sanders’ all-purpose record, which has been held for 26 years now.
McCaffrey literally did it all for Stanford on the offensive side of the ball. He averaged 142 yards a game on the ground, proved to be a passing threat out of the backfield, and even tossed a couple of touchdowns. But his game extended far beyond offense, as he served as the primary kick returner, averaging nearly 30 yards a return, accumulating 1,156 yards on special teams.
He had five games this season where he went over 300 yards, including his final game in the Pac-12 Championship Game vs. USC, where he totaled 461. He was the jack of all trades for the Cardinal, and even as a true sophomore, he’s already cementing himself as one of the most versatile players to ever play this game.
