Houston exceeded expectations in more ways than one this season and that’s a huge testament to first-year head coach Tom Herman. Not only did they win the difficult AAC, they capped the year with a win over Florida State in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl to hand Jimbo Fisher his first loss to a Group of Five team.

It’s not hard to see how much Houston dominated their bowl game. They won in turnover margin five to one, total yards 448 to 413, and a number of other aspects of the game. Greg Ward Jr. passed for 238 yards, and a touchdown and interception on the day. He also ran for two touchdowns. Demarcus Ayers, who has declared for the NFL Draft, threw a 20-yard touchdown and accounted for over 100 all-purpose yards.

Tom Herman’s squad not only finishes number one among the group of five, he should also find his team the number one group of five team going into 2016.
