It’s difficult to imagine a worse possible outcome for Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson in 2015. Listed among the top five Heisman Trophy candidates in the preseason by Las Vegas oddsmakers, Johnson lost his starting job after only three starts as a junior, during which he threw a combined six interceptions.
Johnson spent the rest of the season competing weekly for the starting spot with redshirt freshman Sean White, who started six games, including the Birmingham Bowl.
The challenge will be even tougher to regain the top spot on the depth chart with White returning and JUCO transfer John Franklin III on campus and ready to participate in spring practice. However, the rising senior has an edge in experience and arm strength and is capable of not only winning the job but completing a terrific comeback season in 2016.
Dan Skipper 2015 Season Statistics
- Games Played: 13
- Team Rushing Yards Per Game: 197.3 (No. 3)
- Team Passing Yards Per Game: 268.2 (No. 3)
- Team Sacks Allowed: 14.0 (No. 1)
- Notable: Named Second Team All-SEC by media and coaches in 2015. The 6-foot-10 rising senior has blocked five kicks in his career.
Arkansas tackle Dan Skipper struggled at left tackle as a sophomore but looked much more comfortable following a move to the right side of the offensive line in 2015. In fact, Skipper bounced back so well that he earned a spot on the All-SEC second team from both the Associated Press and the league’s coaches last season.
Listed at 6-foot-10 and 315 pounds, Skipper’s impact went beyond blocking one offense – Skipper has blocked a combined five kicks over his three seasons on campus, and at least, one in each season.
