The Missouri Tigers struggled mightily in 2015, and finished with a 5-7 record in head coach Gary Pinkel’s final season, but the defense certainly wasn’t to blame. Led by the nation’s leading tackler, Kentrell Brothers, Mizzou finished the season with the No. 2 total defense (302.0 yards of offense allowed per game) and scoring defense (16.2 points allowed per game) in the SEC, which also ranked in the top six nationally.
Brothers is out of eligibility, which leaves defensive end Charles Harris as the Tigers’ top defender entering the 2016 season. Lightly recruited out of high school, Harris emerged as a star in 2015 in his first season as a starter.
The 6-foot-3, 255-pound rising junior ranked second in the SEC with 18.5 tackles for loss among his 56 total stops, and added seven sacks – including a string of four consecutive SEC games with a sack. Harris also forced two fumbles on the season. For his efforts, Harris was named Second Team All-SEC, and he’ll enter 2016 as an All-American candidate.
