Many of the top 25 players on our list of the Top 100 SEC football players for 2016 gave up opportunities to leave school early for the NFL. There may be no one more important to the success of his team than LSU cornerback Tre’Davious White, who chose to return for his senior season despite being projected as a first round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. White was ranked No. 20 overall prospect by ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper, Jr., but he’ll be covering SEC receivers for one more year.

Though his numbers don’t jump off the page – especially the fact that he didn’t record an interception in 2015 – White is an elite cornerback. And, with Florida’s Vernon Hargreaves III jumping to the pros, White is arguably the best in the SEC at his position.

A constant presence in the LSU secondary, the 5-foot-11, 191-pound Shreveport native has already started 35 games in his career. Plus, he’s been a standout performer on special teams, having returned two punts for touchdowns – including one in 2015. White also wears No. 18 for the Tigers, which also points to his leadership role in the locker room on top of his skills on the field.
