Ranking the 50 best SEC football players of all time, including Peyton Manning, Tim Tebow, Cam Newton and Johnny Manziel.

The SEC has been the best football conference for a decade and has eight national championships to prove it. But the strength of the SEC goes back for decades with legendary players who have played for the conference and helped make the conference the dominant league it is today.

This is a list to document the best SEC football players of all-time and rank them to see where their place in SEC history lies. The conference is home to 11 Heisman winners from Frank Sinkwich who won for Georgia in 1942 to Derrick Henry who won for Alabama in 2015 and all of them are ranked on this list.

Limiting the list to a top 50 means there are going to be some great players who were omitted. There’s only so many spots for a conference littered with iconic players so All-Americans had to be left off in some cases. The list tends to favor modern era players and favors quarterbacks, running backs and defensive players. Offensive linemen and wide receivers are the two positions least represented.

Players were only eligible when their teams played in the SEC so while Texas A&M, Missouri, Arkansas and South Carolina have many great players, those who played before the SEC expanded to include those schools aren’t included. Every current member school is included except Missouri which couldn’t get a player qualified after only four years in the league.

While many of the players listed went on to have long and productive careers in the NFL, this is a ranking based solely on their college football careers and their NFL successes or failures aren’t considered. Also, current SEC players aren’t eligible since their college careers are still in progress, so you won’t see Leonard Fournette or Myles Garrett on this list, yet.

There will be plenty of debate when it comes to this ranking because SEC football fans are so passionate and knowledgeable so please continue the conversation in the comments section below and on social media.

Without further ado, here are the 50 best SEC football players of all-time.
