Former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Paul “Bear” Bryant once said John Hannah was the greatest offensive lineman he ever coached, which is high praise from arguably the greatest college football coach in the history of the sport. Hannah played guard and tackle with the Crimson Tide and was a two-time All-American and a consensus All-American in 1972.

He lacked the ideal size you would want from an offensive lineman, but what Hannah lacked in height, he made up for in speed, quickness and a powerful lower half that made him a bulldozer as a run blocker. He could get out of his stance and pull on sweeps and run like a fullback in the open field. Plus, Hannah had the competitiveness and fiery demeanor that endeared him to the Bear.

Hannah was the No. 4 pick in the 1973 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots and a member of the College and Pro Football Hall of Fame.
